Glacier National Park Photography

Glacier National Park in Montana.

I took my family for a short drive to Glacier. We had a day and a half to see everything we could see there. Even though it was only for a day and half we certainly had an adventure. My wife and I took all three kids, our dog and her new puppies, piled in the van and set out to see what we could see. One of the things I wanted to do was to photography Lake St Mary’s at dawn, and I barely made it time to do so because we got lost on our way to St Mary’s lake. The entire family slept in the van on the side of the road for a few hours before making the rest of the trip to the lake.

There is so much to see at Glacier that it can drive you crazy trying to capture all the sights. I spent very little time setting up each shot before I  was off trying to find the next amazing thing to photograph. I pretty much sprinted through the entire park. I would love to go back and spend a little more time checking out the waterfalls, lakes and glaciers.

For this shot I wanted the water to be as smooth as possible so I set the ISO as low as I could and bumped up the f-stop to about 19 or so. I choose my 14 mm lens for this shot and 90% of the other shots as well. A tripod was definitely used. I also cropped this shot in just a little bit too.
